Illminster Visit

So because I'm a year six that means I'm going to a new school next year. There is 3 options for schools, there is Illminster, Gizint and Campion. I'm probably going to Illminster or Gizint. The other day we had a visit to Illminster we basically just went there for a day and saw what they do. So I arrive at our school and the Gizint and Campion people had already left. At 9:30 we got on a bus and we were going to Illminster.

When we arrived we got into this big hall sort of thing we waited round and they told us " I'm the principal here are our values" and what not. I did challenge which is a fitness thing there was also Xcel, scitech, bilingual and stuff but challenge seemed the most fun. We didn't do learning and maths we just did challenge all day.

After morning tea we went back into the gym and got split into two groups, the group I was in was we did this game where you had to be the first to grab a cone. It is sort of like musical chairs except the referee says something like head, knees, shoulders, cone and the first person to grab the cone wins and the loser has to do a burpee. We did four rounds of that and the we did this excercise thing it was twelve situps, eight box jumps, four burpees and then a run to this green fence. We did another four rounds of that which is fourty six situps, thirty six box jumps and sixteen burpees.

At Lunch we could get in the pool but we didn't I couldn't be bothered. I just played basketball for a bit and the bell rung. We did this random meditation stuff afterwards and we had to lie on the gross unmopped floor and have our hands on our stomach. We then played this game where there are ten taggers and everyone else runs around, and if you get tagged you have to go in a push-up position until someone crawls under you. Then we left and went back to wainui also I would rate that visit a solid 6/10.

Kapa Haka 2020

Yesterday on November 18th 2020 we had Moana Syndicate Kapa Haka. We did the peformance at the show grounds in Gisborne. As soon as I arrived at school, I went into class to put my bag up and I see lines of people, they were lining up to get their moko on. So a moko is a traditional Maori piece of face art. Anyway after twenty minutes or so I got to the front of the line, the cold piece of ink pushed against my face, then I went to the other seat looked straight ahead and the ink pressed against my face like a pillow when I'm tired. After that we played around outside for a bit and then the bell rung. We headed to the hall to get our outfits on. After that We got on the bus to get going.

We did a bit of practicing and then we went on stage. We got behind some curtains and had to wait three minutes before we could go on the stage, with my heart pounding we stood up and walked up the stairs onto the stage. Everyone was clapping, I wasn't too nervous because I was with 100 other people. We sang the first song which was E Te Ariki, then we sang Utaina. Then the Utaina Haka whic is the point where the boys move up to do the haka. We did the haka and it hurt like I slapped my chest and arms harder then I ever have. Then we sung Rona three times and wainui e and done.

We left the stage and people loved our peformance even I'd say we were better then any of the other schools, like I'm not joking the peformance after ours was a bunch of kindergarteners. On the way back to school I had my eardrums burst with the noise of the songs. Then we got back to school and I was tired.

There is a NZ artist named Gordon Walters who makes trippy art. My copy of his art is up the top and his actual art is down the bottom.

Year 6 Camp

So a couple weeks ago me and all the year 6's went on camp at Napier and we stayed at Kennedy park. My favourite bit about it was the aquarium because it was cool and fun. When we got to the aquarium we did learning for 30 minutes then after that we got to go around in groups looking at all the epic fish and sharks and stuff. We saw this giant shark jaw replica that was cool. Then we approched the wild, scary fishies. When we approached the kiwis we saw one next to a tree. It was dark so it was not clear.

When we got to the crayfish they were huge! Probably bigger than I'll ever catch in my life. We saw a grey eel it was only like 2 meters long which is huge, that boy has been eating his vegetables.

My Speech

Ok so this week we had to do our speech's and it had to be about changemakers so basically people who made a good change in the world like inventors or people that just did good for the world. I did mine on Tony Finn who invented wakeboarding. There is not much else to say other then: here is my speech

I’m constantly surprised that I am so successful said Tony Finn, the inventor of the famous Liquid Force and wakeboard. Wakeboarding is not the most famous sport but it is the most underrated in my opinion. So in this speech I will be talking about Tony Finn and how he is a changemaker. What is a changemaker? A changemaker is a person who has made a change in the world. Tony Finn made wakeboarding which is a somewhat famous sport and made change meaning he is a changemaker

Tony Finn grew up in Los Angeles in America. He popularized the sport of wakeboarding by designing the skurfer, a mix between a water ski and surfboard. By 1988 the skurfer was being distributed in more than 400 stores across the US and in 40 different countries. After making the skurfer he designed another board which gets towed behind a boat, this time it is a mix of water ski, snowboard and surfing. The sport began as wakesurfing and ended up being changed to wakeboarding. The rider uses the wake of the boat to do jumps.

When Tony sold his business he then created a much more famous business called Liquid Force which is known as the number 1 business for wakeboarding. He co-founded Liquid Force in 1995 with Jimmy Redmon. Liquid Force has become one of the most famous and successful wakeboarding companies. Liquid Force sells wakeboard and kiteboarding gear such as wakeboards, ropes, bindings etc.

Tony Finn loved surfing and got his brother to teach him at  age 11. After surfing for a couple years his dad bought his family a boat and they went out to a river and started water skiing. He loved water skiing more than surfing. After a while of water skiing he found it was getting repetitive so he designed a board called the skurfer which again, is a mix of a surfboard and a water ski. He used the wake at the front of the boat to push you along. He then tried a bunch of different things to make skurfing better. He went snowboarding with his Dad and brother and found that really fun. He took the idea of putting bindings on the skurfer and rode the front of the wake. But this man still didn’t stop. He said he needed more freedom while out on the boat and got a water skiing rope and used it to pull himself along.

In conclusion Tony Finn created a water sport from his enjoyment of surfing, snowboarding and water skiing. After trying out many sports he developed a board that no one had ever seen before and created a successful business and sport from his passion. Finding your passion in life could lead to great success.

So that was my speech it took me 2 entire days so yeah.

Term 3 Week 9

Ok, this week was rough, a lot of stuff happened this week. First of all our class spent Monday moving into the hall, so now we are in the hall because room 2 and 3 are gonna be one big classroom or something. I don't really know what is happening but we are in the hall now. I would prefer to be in a classroom though rather then in the hall it just feels weird doing work in the hall. Also, on the first day (the day after we moved into the hall) I went to the cloak bay to put my bag away then I saw no bags were there and then I realised we were in the hall. So that's one of three things that has happened this week.

The second thing that happened is we went to Pihitia Station, a farm decently close to our school. It is owned by Angus's family and was a pretty cool experience. Not gonna lie this could be a blog post by itself, a lot of stuff happened and it was really cool. We learnt stuff about native birds, animals and a lot more. But that was a cool experience but I can write a lot more about it.

Movie and PJ day was the third thing that happened this week so we could buy popcorn and/or a pizza. The next thing was we had three movie choices to vote for The Sleepover, How to Train Your Dragon and Pets United the movie that won was called the sleepover it was alright but there are better options out there. So we could order popcorn and pizza it's really optional. The popcorn was super sweet and the pizza was just ordinary Dominos pizza.

LTP Pt 2

Junky Monkey is what I have done this week it is basically what I am good at, unscrewing things and discovering whats inside. I'll be honest I don't unscrew anything, I sorta just play with them, in my defence most toys have a triangle shaped screw and we don't have a triangle shaped screwdriver. We have a crosshead, flathead screwdriver and all that stuff but no triangle screwdriver the one screwdriver we need. The toys I keep talking about is just like toys people get from mcdonalds from a happy meal then they keep the toys in storage and then they chuck said toy into the Junky Monkey box.

Quick Writes

Ok you guys know I have to do work at school and if you don't I don't know. But there is a specific type of work that I have not talked about on my blog, I mean I probably have but imma tell you more about it because why not. Every week we have a big batch of new priorities to finish here is what they are 2x word work, 4x quickwrites, 1x Blog post (which I am doing now) and 4 progressions of maths whizz every week. I've already talked about maths whizz so yeah. So at the start of every week we have a meeting about what we are gonna do this week etc and we all grab our writing books and we take key points of the video we watch. So we watch this video and it gives us a topic to write about and 4 main things to talk about. The 4 this week was: why is littering so bad, who do you think is responsible for picking up litter, and why, where would you like to organise a litter pick up in your local area, why and how could people be encouraged to litter less in your local area. We also have to write 50 words in each one so thats 200+ a week.

Automata

So we did this thing it's called an automata it's a thing you twist and it moves. Me, Tay and Finn mad e a dropdown rollercoaster that was to hard so we made one of those UFO ones where it spins around and in the end we made some flying pancakes. With maple syrup dripping on top of them not real maple syrup it's a paper cutout. Also I didn't do a blog post last week. This picture here is our automata. The amazing flying pancakes we called it as you can see the spoon dripping with maple syrup and the cardboard pancakes and the sky in the background.

Maths Whizz

Ok this Blog post is gonna be about a new maths website called maths whizz. It's basically you get credits when you complete a maths question and you use said credits to buy pets, customize your avatar and lots more. It's better than e-ako (the old free maths website we used to use) and it's really fun and we have to do atleast 30 minutes every day. The picture I know you are looking at right now is my avatar yes it's blue and has green hair and sunglasses that reflect the thing I am not looking at. I can't be bothered writing lots of paragraghs like I normally do because I have other priorities to attend to so yeah.

Makey Makey LTP

Ok I know in my last Blog post I said I've only done planet construction, but it’s a new week and I have now done Makey Makey. This Blog post will not make sense if you haven’t read my last one so yeah. Anyway at first I thought Makey Makey was confusing, but it’s honestly easy. In Makey Makey there's these things called Beat bots ( I don’t know if that's the pronunciation but anyway) they are these little bots that there are buttons on and you can make it roll away sort of. But anyway Beat bots aren’t the main part of Makey Makey.

So there’s this board that you plug into your computer and it has little buttons, I guess you could call them but if you plug some wires into those buttons. Then plug the other end of the wire into some play-dough you can tap the play-dough and it acts as if you were tapping the buttons. It’s really cool and you can play pac-man with play-dough, I guess it counts as with play-dough. So on a scale of 1-10 I would rate Makey Makey a decent 8 It’s pretty fun and interesting.

Learning Through Play

So we now do this thing in Term 3 called learning through play, it is basically just well learning through play. There are 4 different options: there is Makey Makey, Junky Monkey, Planet construction and Cardboard Nation. I’ve only done the room 1 activity which is Planet Construction. It's  like blocks and building stuff. Anyway it’s pretty fun and I really like the one I’ve done the blocks and connectivity (is that a word). It’s like connecting stuff to make cool things and yeah.

LTP (Learning Through Play) is after lunch every Monday and Tuesday so it’s not every day.

I don’t really know what to write but imma keep going. There are a maximum of 27 kids at every station and if you pick makey makey on Monday you have to do it on Tuesday you can change every week. When I heard we were gonna do LTP I did NOT know what to do I just followed everyone else not gonna lie. On the first LTP it wasn’t really an actual session of LTP it was more of an introduction to every station.

Cardboard Nation is where you get some cardboard and make it into something, something like that. Planet Construction is the only one I can say a lot about because it’s the only one I’ve done. Planet Construction is like blocks and connecting things and making other things. I don’t know how to describe it but it’s fun. Ok Junky Monkey, again I haven’t been there I’ll get round to it. But it’s basically just taking things apart and things with a motor like those windup car toys you would get with a happy meal or something. Makey Makey sounds fun. It's like wiring I guess for the third time I haven't been there but it sounds fun

First Day Back at Term 3

Okay Term 3 it’s really hard to go back to school and wake up at 7:00 instead of 10:00 and get
used to school after having a break. Just all the differences of a school day and a holiday day.
So anyway school, no waking up and gaming just waking up and getting ready for school.
I personally don’t like school, well not don’t like it, it’s probably just me rather wanting to stay
home instead of go somewhere. Is it just me or does going places not interest me like I'd rather
stay home than go out somewhere. Also on the first day at school when it’s a new Term or year there
are a lot of differences for example more work, different things at different times etc.
Waking up and just  forgetting that there is school today and then you realise there is school today
is one of the worst feelings ever. I can imagine school is like the work for kids except no
money is gained in the process you only gain knowledge and lose money.

The first day of school is always the hardest because you just get really lazy after having a two
week break. So I come to school early to get like an hour of play before the actual learning bit
starts just to like I don’t know but something. Ok here is something on the first day of the Term/ Year
the first day always goes the slowest and then it gets slightly faster. Some days the day goes really
fast and others it goes slow and some days it’s normal and I don’t know if it’s just time or something
you did or if it’s random or how you are feeling or something. Anyway here is a random fact for no
reason: there are a lot of emotions. Ok back to the first day of Term 3, on my first day of school ever
like my first day ever going to school I thought school was just like a place where you make friends
and do a bit of learning and stuff, I mean school is kinda that but like I don’t know what I expected
but school is way harder as you get older. I know teachers try to keep your work balanced and
make it not too hard for you not too easy for you but just right.

This has been a really long Blog but imma do another paragraph because why not. From the start
of the day to morning tea is probably the hardest bit because it is the longest and then morning
tea to the end of the day is really easy. I think it’s because I'm used to work after that couple of hours.
The more years you have been in school is the better because work isn’t so hard to understand
and everything. We had like an eight week break off school in term 1 because of the virus and
everything, that’s probably how I got to Term 3 so quick. Also that eight week lockdown break is
longer than the end of the year holidays. We have the holidays at the end of the year is 6
weeks and the lockdown break is 8 weeks. Ok this has been a really long Blog so imma end it.

Just Dance Peformance

So we did this thing where we get up in front of the class and do a Just Dance performance
with dress ups on and you can pick with a group of 4, 2 or 3. We have to practice and
try get it perfect. It’s not really a competition, it's more of a fun activity for the last week of the term.

So Me, Taika, Reef and Momo are doing Waka Waka with Reef dressing up with a red ladybug shirt
and a red tutu. I am wearing a black tutu with black shorts, Taika is wearing a sorta pink tutu. Momo
is wearing a tie and high visibility vest.

You get points for performance, synchronisation, teamwork and costume. It doesn’t look that fun
when you're up on the stage, but when I was up there I couldn’t stop laughing
I don’t know why but yeah. Anyway it was a really fun thing to do at the
end of the term and I really liked it.

Just Dance

Just dance is a Xbox 360 game but also a really fun thing we do every day
after morning tea in school. Just dance is basically when these people dance
on a screen and you copy them there are different songs, different amounts
of people and when you play the actual game it rates how good you copy the
people on the screen. We don’t play the actual game, we just try and do our
best to copy the dancers. It’s also a really good exercise because you are
jumping and running around so that’s a bonus. It’s a really fun thing to do
when you’re bored too.

You will be surprised how many songs there are, there is probably your
favourite song somewhere out there. Also if you're not that good at it don’t
worry because the people dancing on the screen are in fact professional
dancers in front of a green screen and the  chances are you are not.
I have learnt a lot of things from just dance including how to make a bike out of people. If you do this every day for a few months you will lose a lot of
weight.

There are groups of 2’s, 4’s, 3’s, and 1’s. Meaning you can play with
your friends and family. If you play the actual game it’s going to rate
how good you copy the people on screen and it does a really good job at it.

Back at School After Lockdown

On the last day of lockdown I remembered there is school tomorrow we have been doing
online classes for the past few weeks. I was sort of excited to see my friends but also
I’d rather play games. I go to sleep, wake up, go to school and see a lot of unusual things.
First of all there is a teacher standing at the gate where we go. Second of all we were told
to hand sanitize every time we go in and out of the classroom. Last of all we can only go in
the front gate and there are no assemblies.

I went into class and it was really weird seeing my friends in person rather than on a screen.
It takes a bit of getting used to go in the class hand sanitize go outside hand sanitize. After morning
tea we do this thing called just dance. It's not a new thing to me we have the actual game and it’s
more fun when you are actually getting rated. Anyway that was fun. Also getting up at 7:30 was
a challenge compared to sleeping in.

Week back at WBS

This week was a great week at WBS, it went so fast and before I know it it will be year six camp. My friend just told me we had an option for camp, so we can pick to go in term one or term four. The term one option would be we got on camp to Napier do the same stuff as term four camp except we don't go to the aquarium or splash planet because splash planet will not be open. Thank you for taking your time to read my blog post!

Made by Jackson on Thursday 19th of March 2020 Week 7 Term 1.

First Week Back at WBS

Hi, my name is Jackson but you probably know that already because I have been doing blogs for about 3 years now. Anyway what a decent start to a new year at school I am in MLH 2 (Moana Learning Hub). We have been doing lots of fun activities in MLH (Moana Learning Hub). Like where we had a balloon in between our legs and had to run with it to the oppisite wall with our buzz groups. Buzz groups are a group of 5 - 6 people where we do fun stuff with that group a lot.  I am mainly looking foward to year 6 camp where we leave school for 3 days and go to Napier and do lots of fun activities like go to the aquarium for a night and fun stuff like that.

I have had a great start to 2020 and hope it will be like this next year at intermediate. As a Year 6 I get many priveleges like year 6 camp, surfing, road patrol and many more. Year 6 Surfing is where all the year 6's who want to do Surfing have to swim 20 laps of our school pool, I did this and I now go surfing every Friday at the start of school. Road patrol is at the start of school or the end of school 1 time every week we help kids cross the road so they don't get run over, there is a reward day for doing this at the end of the year we go to the olympic pools I think. But this year so far for an unknown reason we can't play on the field because it is full of dirt and it is blocked off by a orange fence, I hope we get a chance to play on it sometime this term. Also the big tree is blocked off because a branch fell down, I also hope we get to play on it this term. I am in a new syndicate that was made this year it is called Moana syndicate.
