Year 6 Camp

So a couple weeks ago me and all the year 6's went on camp at Napier and we stayed at Kennedy park. My favourite bit about it was the aquarium because it was cool and fun. When we got to the aquarium we did learning for 30 minutes then after that we got to go around in groups looking at all the epic fish and sharks and stuff. We saw this giant shark jaw replica that was cool. Then we approched the wild, scary fishies. When we approached the kiwis we saw one next to a tree. It was dark so it was not clear.

When we got to the crayfish they were huge! Probably bigger than I'll ever catch in my life. We saw a grey eel it was only like 2 meters long which is huge, that boy has been eating his vegetables.

My Speech

Ok so this week we had to do our speech's and it had to be about changemakers so basically people who made a good change in the world like inventors or people that just did good for the world. I did mine on Tony Finn who invented wakeboarding. There is not much else to say other then: here is my speech

I’m constantly surprised that I am so successful said Tony Finn, the inventor of the famous Liquid Force and wakeboard. Wakeboarding is not the most famous sport but it is the most underrated in my opinion. So in this speech I will be talking about Tony Finn and how he is a changemaker. What is a changemaker? A changemaker is a person who has made a change in the world. Tony Finn made wakeboarding which is a somewhat famous sport and made change meaning he is a changemaker

Tony Finn grew up in Los Angeles in America. He popularized the sport of wakeboarding by designing the skurfer, a mix between a water ski and surfboard. By 1988 the skurfer was being distributed in more than 400 stores across the US and in 40 different countries. After making the skurfer he designed another board which gets towed behind a boat, this time it is a mix of water ski, snowboard and surfing. The sport began as wakesurfing and ended up being changed to wakeboarding. The rider uses the wake of the boat to do jumps.

When Tony sold his business he then created a much more famous business called Liquid Force which is known as the number 1 business for wakeboarding. He co-founded Liquid Force in 1995 with Jimmy Redmon. Liquid Force has become one of the most famous and successful wakeboarding companies. Liquid Force sells wakeboard and kiteboarding gear such as wakeboards, ropes, bindings etc.

Tony Finn loved surfing and got his brother to teach him at  age 11. After surfing for a couple years his dad bought his family a boat and they went out to a river and started water skiing. He loved water skiing more than surfing. After a while of water skiing he found it was getting repetitive so he designed a board called the skurfer which again, is a mix of a surfboard and a water ski. He used the wake at the front of the boat to push you along. He then tried a bunch of different things to make skurfing better. He went snowboarding with his Dad and brother and found that really fun. He took the idea of putting bindings on the skurfer and rode the front of the wake. But this man still didn’t stop. He said he needed more freedom while out on the boat and got a water skiing rope and used it to pull himself along.

In conclusion Tony Finn created a water sport from his enjoyment of surfing, snowboarding and water skiing. After trying out many sports he developed a board that no one had ever seen before and created a successful business and sport from his passion. Finding your passion in life could lead to great success.

So that was my speech it took me 2 entire days so yeah.

Term 3 Week 9

Ok, this week was rough, a lot of stuff happened this week. First of all our class spent Monday moving into the hall, so now we are in the hall because room 2 and 3 are gonna be one big classroom or something. I don't really know what is happening but we are in the hall now. I would prefer to be in a classroom though rather then in the hall it just feels weird doing work in the hall. Also, on the first day (the day after we moved into the hall) I went to the cloak bay to put my bag away then I saw no bags were there and then I realised we were in the hall. So that's one of three things that has happened this week.

The second thing that happened is we went to Pihitia Station, a farm decently close to our school. It is owned by Angus's family and was a pretty cool experience. Not gonna lie this could be a blog post by itself, a lot of stuff happened and it was really cool. We learnt stuff about native birds, animals and a lot more. But that was a cool experience but I can write a lot more about it.

Movie and PJ day was the third thing that happened this week so we could buy popcorn and/or a pizza. The next thing was we had three movie choices to vote for The Sleepover, How to Train Your Dragon and Pets United the movie that won was called the sleepover it was alright but there are better options out there. So we could order popcorn and pizza it's really optional. The popcorn was super sweet and the pizza was just ordinary Dominos pizza.

LTP Pt 2

Junky Monkey is what I have done this week it is basically what I am good at, unscrewing things and discovering whats inside. I'll be honest I don't unscrew anything, I sorta just play with them, in my defence most toys have a triangle shaped screw and we don't have a triangle shaped screwdriver. We have a crosshead, flathead screwdriver and all that stuff but no triangle screwdriver the one screwdriver we need. The toys I keep talking about is just like toys people get from mcdonalds from a happy meal then they keep the toys in storage and then they chuck said toy into the Junky Monkey box.

Quick Writes

Ok you guys know I have to do work at school and if you don't I don't know. But there is a specific type of work that I have not talked about on my blog, I mean I probably have but imma tell you more about it because why not. Every week we have a big batch of new priorities to finish here is what they are 2x word work, 4x quickwrites, 1x Blog post (which I am doing now) and 4 progressions of maths whizz every week. I've already talked about maths whizz so yeah. So at the start of every week we have a meeting about what we are gonna do this week etc and we all grab our writing books and we take key points of the video we watch. So we watch this video and it gives us a topic to write about and 4 main things to talk about. The 4 this week was: why is littering so bad, who do you think is responsible for picking up litter, and why, where would you like to organise a litter pick up in your local area, why and how could people be encouraged to litter less in your local area. We also have to write 50 words in each one so thats 200+ a week.

Automata

So we did this thing it's called an automata it's a thing you twist and it moves. Me, Tay and Finn mad e a dropdown rollercoaster that was to hard so we made one of those UFO ones where it spins around and in the end we made some flying pancakes. With maple syrup dripping on top of them not real maple syrup it's a paper cutout. Also I didn't do a blog post last week. This picture here is our automata. The amazing flying pancakes we called it as you can see the spoon dripping with maple syrup and the cardboard pancakes and the sky in the background.

Maths Whizz

Ok this Blog post is gonna be about a new maths website called maths whizz. It's basically you get credits when you complete a maths question and you use said credits to buy pets, customize your avatar and lots more. It's better than e-ako (the old free maths website we used to use) and it's really fun and we have to do atleast 30 minutes every day. The picture I know you are looking at right now is my avatar yes it's blue and has green hair and sunglasses that reflect the thing I am not looking at. I can't be bothered writing lots of paragraghs like I normally do because I have other priorities to attend to so yeah.
