Marae Trip

                            Marae Trip
Only a few weeks back me and my school stayed the night at Ko Poho o Rawiri Marae. The Marae was a big one it was based on the other Marae Te Poho o Rawiri Marae somewhere else. There was alot of brown wood but it didn't look like the wood you're probably thinking of it was more of a brown like chocolate. When we first walked in it was cold like ice
This is inside the Marae it was fun because we did rotations to different things and maori games was inside.
This is the front of Ko Poho o Rawiri Marae.

Kapa Haka Festival 2019

Kapa Haka Festival 2019
Me and my school competed in the Turanganui Culutral Festival and this is what happened. So we got our moko and skirt on at school. I was getting my moko on and I had to push against the cool ink. Then we got on the buses and sang the wheels on the bus.

After arriving at the festival we went inside. We listened to Riverdale school's peformance for a few minutes and then watched Wai's peformance, Wai is basically our school's version of junior, and senior is Nui. Wai's peformance flew by and eventually it was our turn.

We left to go outside and get in our kapa haka lines, I was fourth row so I had a skirt and 1st row to second row had piupiu and fourth row and back had black shorts. For girls 1st to second row wears piupiu and 2nd row and back wears a maori dress. We got in our lines and as a big unit, we got to the stage. I wasn't nervous or anything like that, I would be if I was by myself up on stage not with 80 other kids. Our song order goes like this, Tu mai ra, Harae mai a Paoa, Ka Pioio, Puri anei, Utaina, Wainui Haka, Ka mate, Wainui e and last is E honore. We got on stage and sang Tu mai ra then it was time for Harae mai a Paoa, the song we have practiced and always failed we have only succeeded around 4-5 times. The one thing we have been failing is at the end we sing ki te tairawhiti e but the actual way is ki te tairawhiti no e. We finished it and moment of truth, someone said e all that practice for a big fail.

We got to the the part where the boys move foward and the girls move back and then it hit me, every second row moves left so you can see them easier and I tried my hardest not to smile or anything like that. Also theres a part in the Wainui Haka where the 4th row and back stay standing and 1st 2nd and 3rd row go down. So since i'm in 4th row I'm in front the crowd staring me down, me resisting. We sang Wainui e not much to say about that then E honore then we left.

Leighton House Visit

Me and my class went on a trip to visit residents at leighton House (an old peoples home). We originally planned to go to the hospital but our entry was denied because of measles. We all had different jobs to work on me personally was a logistics officer me and Momo and Stormur had to plan how long it was gonna take to get there who goes in what cars etc. Anyway we drove to Leighton House and arrived inside. We got in pairs I was with Lola but I'll be honest everyone ditched their pairs and played games outside. We got to the lounge where everyone was at and just scrambled.

I first talked to Nole a resident and I asked how old he is he said something I said what and he said something again and I just said oh wow. Nole was wearing a red sweatshirt and khaki pants I think. I walked over to someone else and and repeated the oh wow sentence. There was some guy in the corner and he wasn't getting much attention so I walked over to him and someone said Jackson so I turned around and they ment Jaxon not Jackson. But then I walked over to Troy and some old lady playing connect 4 she must of loved connect 4 because she played it for a full hour the whole time we were there.

I had to help Troy even know I wanted to help the old lady. but I did that for a while then played outside for a bit. Then we almost had to leave Cash clapped his hands we repeated we packed up sang a school song and left.

Te Tapuwae Rongokako Marine Reserve

Me and my class went on a trip to Te Tapuwae Rongokako Marine Reserve. We got In cars and drove there . Last week we had snorkeling lessons to  prepare for next week. Anyway we got there and Joe (the guide) refreshed our minds about how to use the snorkels, and where we get changed etc. We also learnt some hand signals like if we start to drown we put our hand up and if we go underwater we do a thumbs down. Anyway we got into groups to go snorkeling with. I was with AJ (my Dad) Kobe Max, Momo and myself. So this is how it works one adult looks over 4 children and the kids have to be in arms reach with the adult. We went out to a calm spot after getting into our wetsuit so we didn't get washed around by the waves.

We put all our gear on and headed out to the marine reserve. At first the water was freezing and when I say freezing I mean FREEZING! But after a while I warmed up and our group headed straight to the rocks out the back. We got there and we saw our first living sea creature, a crayfish. I was about to grab it but then I realised I'm not out diving with my Dad I was at a marine reserve a place where it's illegal to take food home. But then my Dad said " We probably have one of the most confident groups" no offence to anyone else but it's probably true. Then I saw a kina as big as a soccer ball I almost thought I should wake up? But no, this was true I was living through this experience.

We then headed diagonally towards the shore. I heard a few screams so I came up and saw Kobe and Max screaming. To be honest I didn't really care, but now I regret not caring because if there was a shark, let's just say whoops. Anyway I looked behind me underwater and saw my Dad holding a crayfish by the back trying to scare us I didn't care because I've had prior experience with crayfish. I know crayfish can't hurt you, they may look spiky and deadly but they can't hurt. But the temtation hurt, it's like having to look at your favourite food just right there in front of you but you can't have it.

Anyway around about now Momo got cold so we had swim down to shore and drop him off. But when we were down there we all wanted a rest so we all waited until we wanted another go and this time instead of my Dad taking us Koka Rozie (Our Teacher) took us. We got out to the other remaining group and had a look around and then 4 people got cold so the other adult Joe took them in and then me and Cash took a look around and then we got out and then we left.
